IT WAS a big night for the throws squad trained by Grahame Pitt at Saturday night's 2013 Sports Darling Downs awards presentation.

Australian Commonwealth Games squad contender Lara Nielsen was crowned Senior Sport Star of the Year for the region in front of nearly 500 members and supporters of the Darling Downs sporting community at Rumours International.

Training partner Matthew Denny also went back-to-back in the Junior Sport Star of the Year category, meaning the top two awards went to athletics throwing talents.

Making the night even more memorable for the squad of throwers, revered mentor Grahame Pitt also took out the Coach of the Year award.
